Fighting Malnutrition and Hunger Problems
Nutrition and Wholesome Meals
Did you know that 15% of the Indian population sleeps hungry every night? Did you know there are 68% children under-5 in India who die of malnutrition every year?
Over the past decade, hunger in India has remained a prevalent issue for the increasing population; out of 117 countries, India is ranked at 104 on the Global Hunger Index.
Malnutrition and undernourishment in India have been widespread since the '90s and the number of people in India being undernourished has been increasing daily.
This issue is not being showcased in the media and people do not seem to address it appropriately, but this is a very serious problem that needs to be dealt with in a prompt and effective manner. Just 100 believes that as a community, even little contributions made for the hungry among us can help eradicate the issue of malnutrition, especially among children.
Just 100 makes regular efforts to provide the less fortunate with nutritious meals. Our initiative include:
- Wholesome meal distribution in slum areas
- Fund-raising events to establish free-kitchen facilities
Advocating the Necessity of Hygienic Living
Clean Water And Sanitation
Most of the rural population in India does not have access to improved sanitation facilities. Good personal hygiene is a very essential component of healthy living, but unfortunately, the rural population is unenlightened about this basic right.
Personal hygiene entails keeping your hands and body clean so that the spread of germs and illnesses can be prevented. Personal hygiene is more than just being clean; it helps people stay healthy and well. It is no revelation that children in rural and slum areas are the most vulnerable to diseases as they are in constant contact with dirt, germs, and chemicals because of the surroundings they live in.
While it is difficult to change their surroundings, it can be comparatively easier to change their personal habits. Simple habits like washing hands repeatedly can help prevent diseases like typhoid, cholera, worm infection, coronavirus, etc.
Just 100 makes various attempts to educate these slum children and their families on the importance of good hygiene and how it can help save many lives as well as save money spent on health treatments.
Many initiatives have been started by Just 100 for the betterment of the unfortunate communities for better health and hygiene like:
- Providing and establishing clean drinking water facilities in summers
- Training the underprivileged to insist and use organized sanitation facilities
- Providing necessary medication and vaccination doses for less privileged children
Promoting the importance of literacy and intellect
Education And Overall Holistic Development
Education builds a country's economy and society, and it is believed that education helps to develop the personality of the youth and lead them to the ladder of success.
India, since the early days of independence, has always focused on improving the literacy rate of the country. There is a strong relationship between illiteracy and poverty as the people who cannot read and write, it's hard for them to get a skilled job which would eventually lead to poverty.
Just 100 started an initiative named “MASTI KI PATHSHALA” where they give Gujarati language learning sessions and teach the children in slums who do not have the facilities to go to a proper school and learn to read and write. You would be surprised to know how many people have volunteered to teach the less fortunate.
Just 100 advocates that as the citizens of India, it is our duty to help the others grow with us. With that spirit, Just 100 aims to set up:
- Education centres for children in slum areas
- Academic mentoring sessions for children aiming for higher secondary/tertiary education
